Bridgestone B330 Golf Ball

I randomly found a Bridgestone B330 Golf Ball the other day on the course and decided to give it a shot. For years I have been playing with Pro-V1's and have loved their feel around the green and control on short irons/pitches.

I was pretty impressed with the B330 and thought it was quite comparable to a Pro-V1.

So I decided to do a quick search online to see the cost difference.

Amazon had them and the Bridgestone balls were much cheaper than Pro-V1s. If i were you and like the feel of the Pro-V1 but not the cost, I would consider buying a sleeve of the Bridgestone's and trying them out.

Memorial Golf Course - Houston, TX

I finally played Memorial Golf Course a few weeks ago and was very impressed. For being a public muni course, the course was in great shape. Also, if you play it from the tips it can be a long course, giving any golfer a good challenge.

One of the best parts about the course is its twilight rate. After 4pm you can play with a cart for $32. If you are able to tee off at 4, you would easily be able to get in 18-holes. I would even imagine tee times up to 4:45 could get the whole round in.

What could use improvement at the course would be its practice facilities. Since it has such high traffic it is difficult to keep up the maintenance on its putting/chipping green. The green itself is a joke, and I could get better practice on my carpet at home. The grass around the green is also pathetic and there is no way anyone can really practice chipping. It was like trying to hit a ball off the sidewalk. And of course, it has mats on the range, not real grass. So dont expect a true practice session there.

Surprisingly enough the practice facilities give no indication of how the course is. The fairways and greens were in as good of shape I have seen for a public course and even the bunkers were well maintained (unfortunately I know first hand).

Going forward, Memorial would definitely be on the top of my list to play. The only hard part is getting a tee-time as you have to use the lottery method. If you can get the 4pm twilight rate, I highly recommend it.

The First Tee of Houston

Yesterday I attended the Volunteer Training for The First Tee of Houston/Redstone. I am looking forward to getting involved with this organization as I feel it will be a great way to give back to the community, stay involved with golf, and help young kids learn life lessons that apply on and off the golf course.

With my schedule I wont be able to start attending clinics until July, but I will be participating as a "mentor" and look forward to just having fun and showing kids how to get better at golf.

I was surprised by the turn out at the training session yesterday. People from all ages were attending, from high schoolers to parents. The facility at Redstone is very good. Redstone had donated land and a building for The First Tee to use. They have a practice putting/chipping green and a 3-hole par 3 course as well. Maybe ill be able to improve my game as well showing these kids new drills.

Golf Warm Up

A lot of people dont realize that warming up can make a big difference in a round. Just getting to the course 30 minutes earlier can make your round a lot more enjoyable. When I going for your next round I recommend the following routine which I like to follow myself:

* Try to arrive soon enough to give yourself time to warm up properly.

* Work your way though the bag, beginning with the short irons, moving onto the mid-and long irons and then the woods.

* It's often a good idea to finish warming up by hitting a few soft wedge shots before heading for the practice green and hitting a few putts.

* Don't hit hundreds of balls and leave your game on the practice tee.

Golf is Good For You

Is Golf a real sport? Can it be good for your health?

"One of the more interesting things I found was that the actual act of swinging a golf club takes significant energy," said Neil Wolkodoff, director of the Rose Center for Health and Sports Sciences in Denver.
